Users solve puzzles, interrogate witnesses, solve crimes. You can and should pick and choose your lines while interacting with the characters. Depending on the detective’s tone, NPCs may share valuable information or refuse to cooperate. The sleuths have five cases to solve: Downward Spiral – you have to figure out if a man’s fall from the roof was an accident or a murder disguised as one; Just Desserts – witnesses found dead a food critic, famous for his scathing reviews, right in the restaurant; Off the Mark – Women’s corpses were found at a construction site and in a theater, and the police are checking to see if a serial killer could have done it; Hillridge Confidential – a young girl takes her life right on the stream, and her killer turns out to be connected to a local school; Derailed – Mac began investigating an incident involving the discovery of a frozen body at a subway station and suddenly found himself among the suspects.

It also rather cleverly links up a number of the seemingly unconnected stories at the end, and gives you the assignment of preventing a murder rather than solving one.

The cons? Indeed, the whole game is really more suited to collecting things and then matching them up to other things by puzzle-piecing process than actual mystery-solving. Everything is very much on a fixed track, and you have no ability to alter the outcome of the story at all. This is doubly disappointing because his castmates, especially Eric Szmanda and Paul Guilfoyle, all seem to have taken this little exercise quite seriously.

For shame, Grissom! There are 5 cases included in this game. The first few are a breeze, with the first almost like a tutorial. Each cases takes about 30 minutes to an hour or a little over to complete.

The last case is the hardest and ties into a few of the other cases, which is a nice challenge and a sweet twist.

Basically, throughout each case, you have to examine different locations and crime scenes and pick up any evidence that you find. You interrogate people and ask Al at the morgue if there’s a dead body involved and Jim at the Law Office to get warrants for anything. The problem with this is that there’s not much interaction going on. You are, at no time, in imminent danger and there is no time limit. You simply find things and ask others to examine them or use automatic computers to do it for you.

It’s not a hard game. The only challenge is finding all of the evidence. If you don’t find all of the evidence, your evaluation score at the end of each case goes down. Players can challenge themselves by replaying each case until they have achieved “Master Status” — which is really the only challenge this game provides. So in other words, it’s a fun challenge for a few hours or days, depending on how many breaks you want to take , but a little short and too straightforward.

It’s only a few seconds, but it’s annoying when you’re eager to get something done. Aside from all of that, the graphics are pretty good and the interface is user friendly.
