We currently use WSUS and will be looking at using SCCM to manage the updates soon, is it a simple case of selecting or unselecting a classification to stop the updates downloading like a service pack? I know we can suppress the Store, and remove the Edge icon from the default profile plus use Enterprise Mode , its just the forcing of specific updates after 8 months which concern me.

LTSB still requires monthly updates but that lack of new features being incorporated in 18 month windows, means you’ll have a stable platform for 10 years and of course less updates to manage and possibly affect your stability.

The issue you are feeling is common to all of us, do we go LTSB and limit features, possibly a key feature required by some new software down the road or go Standard Branch and continue the patch race. We couldn’t come to a common decision and will likely rollout both. BTW, you can’t “not update” Standard Branch, if you deny updates too long then you won’t be able to install any as the newer ones will apply only to the latest Update Pack, sort of an 18 -month rolling window you need to stay within.
